      Area Woman Dies at Site Of Home Fire
      BROOKLYN - Mrs. Catherine Alice Willmes, 79, a resident of the Town of Brooklyn, Washburn County, is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack at her home after a fire broke out there Wednesday.
      The blaze broke out in the car which was in the basement garage of the residence, approximately seven miles south of Minong and just north of Lampson on U.S. Highway 53. The smoke alarms were going off as she was coming out of the house when she reportedly grabbed her chest, said something about her heart and fell. This occurred about 10 minutes before firemen arrived. The coroner was summoned.
      The woman, a widow, lived alone.
      The flames from the car spread to the wood frame house which was heavily damaged in the blaze. The time of the fire was about 2:45 p.m.
      Firemen. from the Minong and Spooner volunteer departments as well as the Department of Natural Resources, about 12 in all, were on hand to fight the fire.
      Mrs. Willmes was born Jan. 13, 1905 in Sun Prairie and had been a resident of the Town of Brooklyn since 1972, moving there from Racine. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Minong, its Altar Society, and the St. Joseph's Altar Society in Trego.
      Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Mary) Mess, Watertown, and Mrs. Bernard (Dorothy) Schuster, Sun Prairie; three brothers, Al and Lawrence Conrad, both of Sun Prairie, and Eugene Conrad, of Wichita Falls, Tex., and several nieces and nephews.
      Her husband, Thomas, died Jan. 13, 1981.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m., Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Minong. The Rev. Fr. William Horath will officiate, with interment to be in the Lampson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Friday in the Pettit-Brown Funeral Home, Minong, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. that day.
