    • TOWN OF YORK - Alvin H. Derr, age 102, died on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at his home. He was born on June 24, 1905, to Michael and Eva (Kraus) Derr on the family farm in the Town of York.Alvin was a graduate of Columbus High School and spent his entire life working on the family's-now designated-Centennial Farm. He was instrumental in bringing electricity to his rural area. Alvin was past president of Bristol Town Mutual for more than 30 years. He loved playing cards and operating short wave radio. Alvin enjoyed traveling and especially wintering in Texas. He was a woodworking craftsman, making many grandfather and school-style clocks. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Bristol and the Men's Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include his wife, Mary of rural Marshall; two daughters, Dolores (Rueben) Christian of Columbus, and Karen (Richard) Newel of Sun Prairie; a son, Bob (Diane) of rural Marshall; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Cyril and Art; and sister, Olive Damm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, East Bristol. The Rev. Gary Wankerl will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Memorials made to HospiceCare Inc. or St. Joseph Church are appreciated. Jones-Jensen Funeral and Cremation Columbus.
